Hi, I'm thinking of getting a new Xb either this year or next. I've visited the dealer and gave the car a once-over and really like it. I didn't talk to any salespeople and I was surprised that none came over to me as I was in there for about 45 minutes. I read in a few places that the car's price in non-negotiable, meaning you can't bargain with them. The price on the sticker is the price you pay. Is this true? Did any of you have any luck with negotiations? I was thinking the reason no saleperson came over to me is that there's no need for a salesman, if you want it you pay full price......

Yes, the pure pricing does not allow for haggling on new vehicles.

Now, you might be able to negotiate accessories, or more money on a trade in, but the base price of the car is what you pay.

The rules change if you're looking at used though.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I also noticed that they overcharge for accessories BIG TIME. I've seen the same things for up to less than half price (wheel locks, for instance) so i could save a lot of money there.

Yea, most of the things you're gonna want can be had for way less elsewhere.

Yeah, now the hard part....trying to convince the wife I need it with a 2004 Turbo PT Cruiser sitting in the garage with 4000 miles on it!

Oh, NO WAY! That's my "keeper" car. I'm trying to avoid using it as a daily driver...that's where the Xb comes in

Wow! Only 4000 miles on a four year old automobile? How did that happen?

Well......it's an interesting story. Back in 2004 my wife had her new Honda minivan and I was driving her old 1989 Civic with about 160,000 miles on it. I always liked the PT Cruiser but the engine in it was making it a dog. I heard they had come out with two versions of the turbo, 180hp and 220hp. I went to the dealer to look at the 180hp version, I liked it, but it only came in an automatic (I wanted a 5-speed). They had a great deal going...rebate, 4 years at 0% interest and thinking the civic was on its last gasps I bought a 220hp, PT Cruiser GT w/5 speed. Well, the civic has been a real trooper and is still running very well to this day and the PT sits in the garage waiting for the civic to die. It won't. I also put a lot of custom stuff in the PT like chrome accents, Stage I turbo and all other kinds of horsepower enhancements. It has become so nice now, I don't want to leave it at the train station when I go to work. Next month the payments are up on the PT and I'll have an extra $500 a month. I figure I can get an Xb, use it as a commuter and try to keep the PT as a "fun" car and maybe it'll be worth something....someday. Who knows?

That's my story and I'm sticking to it....
